Predictions for 2006?!

So, as we stumble into a new year, one has to wonder, what may occur over the next 365 days, and where will the Oak be this time next year?

Yahoo News have an interesting 2006 predictions article, which proclaims Arnold will be re-elected as California Governor, Google will fall and Brazil will once again reign as champions in the World Cup!

Here's an excerpt from the article:

PARIS (AFP) - In 2006, prognosticators say, Arnold "the Terminator" Schwarzenegger will be re-elected governor of California, Internet behemoth Google will get its comeuppance, and Brazil will hang on to the World Cup.

If, that is, the 14.4 kilometer-long comet said by one seer to have a rendez-vous with planet earth sometime in the next 12 months strikes after the June football tournament and not before.

Even if they all agree that predicting the future is a fool's game, a legion of soothsayers -- from business gurus to Bible decoders, from football fanatics to futurologists -- seem unable to resist the temptation to share clairvoyant insights as to what the new year holds in store.

Besides psychics, who read tea leaves for a living, no group is more prone to oracular pronouncements than adepts of information technology. By late December, the Internet was groaning under the weight of their near-term forecasts.

Most are banal or intelligible only within the tribe, but when new-media guru John Battelle -- co-founder of "Wired" magazine and author of the much read "Searchblog" -- gazes into his crystal ball, a lot of people who use but do not necessarily understand consumer technology look over his shoulder.

"Google will stumble" due to a bad partnership or a legal setback in one or more of many pending lawsuits, Battelle says, referring to the Internet search company that now rivals Microsoft as the driving force in consumer-related IT. He also predicts that legislators in the US and elsewhere will take concrete steps to protect ordinary citizens against "the perils of unprotected Internet data mining" into their personal lives, including credit and health histories.

GA SAYS:

Arnold definitely deserves to be re-elected as California Governor! Look at all that hard work he's put in over the past year and a half - CA is a different picture to what it was 18 months ago. For the better!
