Arnold to receive Award!
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will visit a College Station next month to accept a public service award from Former President Bush.
“Schwarzenegger will speak on November 30th at Texas A&M University's Rudder Auditorium”, said Roman Popadiuk, executive director of the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation.
Tickets to the speech are free and will become available to the public at a later date, Bush Library officials said. The 2,500-seat auditorium is expected to fill quickly.
Schwarzenegger will join former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, former German chancellor Helmut Kohl and U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy as recipients of the George Bush Award for Excellence in Public Service.
Former President Bush plans to present Schwarzenegger with the award during the Rudder Auditorium event and honour him afterwards at a private dinner, with about 250 people at his library's rotunda.
The award recognizes an individual or group's dedication to public service at the local, state, national or international level. The award comes with a custom crystal sculpture and an undisclosed monetary prize.
Schwarzenegger was appointed in 1990 by then-President Bush to serve as chairman of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, a position the Hollywood star held until 1993.
Dale Petroskey, president and chief operating officer of the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown , N.Y. , will speak about baseball in an unrelated free lecture at the library Nov. 6.
Tickets for Petroskey's 7pm speech, which is part of the William Waldo Cameron Forum on Public Affairs, are available at the Memorial Student Center Box Office, WTAW Radio, The Eagle and KBTX-TV.
